Prof. Abu Ahmed is a distinguished economist and capital market analyst of Bangladesh. He completed his B.Sc (Hon.) from the University of Dhaka (DU), M.Sc from Pakistan, and MA from the University of Toronto. With a long and accomplished academic and professional career, he has contributed significantly to economic research, capital market development, and public policy formulation. He currently serves as the Chairman of the Investment Corporation of Bangladesh (ICB) and is a Member of the Hamdard Board of Trustees.

Work experience

Prof. Abu Ahmed has held several prominent academic positions throughout his career. He served as a Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Dhaka and later became the Former Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences at DU. His academic leadership contributed to strengthening research standards, curriculum development, and institutional excellence in higher education.

Beyond academia, he has played a vital role in the financial and regulatory sectors of Bangladesh. He served as a Former Advisor to the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC), where he provided strategic guidance on capital market policies and reforms. Currently, as the Chairman of the Investment Corporation of Bangladesh (ICB), he oversees investment operations, market stabilisation initiatives, and institutional governance, while also serving as a Member of the Hamdard Board of Trustees.
